Running in Circles

Running in Circles

I’ve been asked recently “What can be done about boring training runs?” So please find to follow a series of short training tips which will help you get the most out of your running and help you to get motivated again!

There are loads of things that you can do to make things a little more exciting and also to take your mind off the aches and pains that you may be experiencing. Read on to regain your Mojo!

Reboot Your Route
If you run the same route over an over again it will become monotonous and eventually this will stop you improving as a runner. Let’s face it, most of us run in some kind of wobbly circle don’t we? From home and back to home would be fairly typical for most of us wouldn’t it? With that in mind we are fairly restricted to routes and depending on how many roads lead in or out of your neighbourhood depends on the number of choices you have. So, my first tip is obvious. If you are running the same route all the time then find another route. This will have an immediate uplifting effect.
If you simply have to use the same route, perhaps because you know it’s exactly 5k, then run it the opposite way or on the other side of the road or both. Even small changes will make a big difference to your motivation and your performance. And don’t be afraid to be spontaneous about it. I run almost daily and every now an then I’ll surprise myself by not planning my route beforehand. A quick decision and change of direction is sometimes all you need to fire your legs again. Try it.

Not rocket science I know, quite obvious in fact. But see how it changes your attitude towards your daily run.

Watch out for another tip coming soon.

      1. All things running are interesting to me and its a valid post. I do try and mix my runs up as much as i can and would encourage others to do so.
